Concert in Malta to Support Victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake

 

    On 13 July 2011 Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Malta Dr.Tonio Borg held a concert to support victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Valletta. Commencing the concert, the host gave a brief report on damage caused by the disaster and noted solidarity with and support for those victims as motives of the concert. In the concert Ms.Minako Yoshida and Ms.Etsuko Tobukuro played “Midare”, “Torinoyouni”, and “Hana” by koto, followed by Valhmor Montfort playing “Sonatas and partitas for solo violin” and “Gabriel’s Oboe” by violin. The concert received a large audience including Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Dr. John Paul Grech, members of the parliament, and ambassadors of the diplomatic representations in Malta. At the end of the concert Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Borg handed over to Ambassador Kohno donation from the government of Malta to Japan Red Cross. Ambassador Kohno expressed deep gratitude for the concert, remarking on continuing efforts for reconstruction in Japan along with international assistance including the Republic of Malta.
